Iran attacks US technology companies and data centers

Iran and the US-Israel, major US technology companies in the Middle East have become new targets of war. Iran has directly targeted commercial data centers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain with drone and missile attacks.

This has raised serious questions about the security of digital infrastructure. This type of attack began at 4:30 am on March 1. At that time, an Iranian 'Shaheed 136' drone struck an Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center in the UAE. This caused a massive fire and completely cut off the power supply. Soon after, a second Amazon data center was also hit. According to Reuters, another Amazon facility in Bahrain was also damaged by a drone explosion.

These attacks have caused widespread disruption to digital services in the UAE and Bahrain, according to CNBC. Services of taxi and delivery app Careem, payment providers Alaan and HubPay, and financial institutions such as Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and Emirates NBD were affected. Amazon advised its customers to keep their data safe and move servers to other areas.
