US President Donald Trump has announced a $500 billion investment to build artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in the US. Trump announced the investment at an event held at the White House. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son and Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison attended the event. At the same event, Trump announced the investment for what he called the ‘largest AI infrastructure in history’.
For this, OpenAI, SoftBank and Oracle will open a new company called ‘Stargate’. The three companies will initially invest $100 billion and the goal is to increase this investment to $500 billion in the coming year. Trump has claimed that this project will create 100,000 new jobs in the US.
Stargate will build the physical and virtual infrastructure necessary for AI development. Under this, data centers will be built across the country. Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison informed that the first 1 million square foot data center is being built in Texas, USA.
A recent report (policy white paper) by OpenAI states that investment in US AI infrastructure will create new jobs and economic opportunities. It also claims that it will help keep US technology ahead of Chinese technology. The report states, “If the US cannot attract this investment, these resources will flow to China-related projects. This will strengthen the global influence of the Chinese Communist Party.”
According to Oracle, the Stargate project will strengthen US dominance in AI and provide thousands of American jobs. It will also bring significant economic benefits worldwide. Oracle believes that it will reindustrialize the US and provide strategic assistance for national security.
