According to the statistics of the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police, in the financial year 2076/77, there were 2,301 complaints related to cyber crime, while in the current fiscal year from last July to 23 February 2024, 12,789 complaints were received.
The police head office mentioned that 3 thousand 906 applications were received in the financial year 2077/78, 4 thousand 686 in the financial year 2078/79 and 9 thousand 13 in the financial year 2079/80.
According to the police, as of February 23 of the current year, a total of 12,789 complaints have been submitted to the Cyber Bureau, including 164 victimized boys, 242 female victims, 5,703 female victims, 6,177 male victims and 503 others.
Police Superintendent and Spokesperson of Cyber Bureau, Deepakraj Awasthi, informed that among various forms of crimes such as online fraud, publishing obscene photos and videos on social media, using other people's names and photos, website hacking, the Bureau has recently received more applications for financial fraud.
