The government has made the 11th amendment to the National Broadcasting Regulations 2052 BS and has made arrangements to get permission for the television service to be operated through internet. The company providing over the top (OTT), VOD and online television services has made arrangements to have a cash server within Nepal.
Earlier, permission was sought from the Department of Information and Broadcasting for the operation of media and video streaming, video on demand (VOD) and online TV (Internet TV) which could be operated without permission from the government.
After the government made the 11th amendment to the National Broadcasting Regulations 2052, platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube Premium, Hotstar, Sony Live will also have to get permission to provide services. Similarly, the company will be able to become a member or customer within Nepal only after obtaining a license and keeping a cash server.
